The Flowhesion Foundation was delighted to have been shortlisted, and then winning, by public vote, The Sport England community sports project of the year, 2024. The award recognised The Foundation’s Haliwell girls sports Hub, which helps girls, especially those between 11 and 17 facing racial inequalities, get into sports.
Sports Hub coordinator Julie Vining said: “I’m ecstatic to have won the award on behalf of the girls and Team Flowhesion!’
The award was presented at the annual Sporting Equals event in London that celebrates achievements of people and groups from different backgrounds in sports and promotes the importance of inclusivity.
The Halliwell Girls Sports Hub was founded in May 2023 and works to give girls, who may be facing barriers like cost or travel, a safe and welcoming place to play sports.
The hub has 58 girls currently registered who co-design the activities that they do in six-week blocks. So far, the girls have taken part in rock climbing, boxing, horse riding, ice-skating with canoeing, skiing and swimming planned.
Imam Abdul Siddique, Founder and CEO of Flowhesion stated: ‘At Flowhesion our mission is simple, we want all communities to live better, feel better and achieve more. This award is a testament to the hard work of our sports staff as well as the dedication, enthusiasm and spirit of the girls who take part in these activities. I look forward to seeing the hub grow and continue to give girls from all backgrounds the opportunity to take part in structured sport activities’
